Importance of Eye Exams
Regular eye examinations are essential, especially if there are signs of vision problems. Early detection and treatment can prevent long-term issues and support a child’s learning and development. If you suspect any eye problems, it’s important to consult an eye care professional.
Refractive Errors:
- Myopia (Nearsightedness): Difficulty seeing distant objects clearly.

Strabismus (Crossed Eyes):
A condition where the eyes do not align properly, which can affect depth perception and ead to amblyopia (lazy eye).

Reduced vision in one eye that occurs when the brain and the affected eye do not work together properly. Early detection and treatment are crucial.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye):
An inflammation of the conjunctiva, often caused by infections or allergies, leading to redness, itching, and discharge.
Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inner eyelids. It’s common among children and can be caused by several factors.
- Viral Conjunctivitis: Triggered by allergens like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or mold.
- Bacterial Conjunctiviti: Characterized by itching, redness, and watery eyes.
- Allergic Conjunctivitis: Caused by exposure to irritants like smoke, chlorine, or chemicals, Symptoms resolve once the irritant is removed.
Allergies: Allergic reactions can cause itchy, red, watery eyes and swelling.
Some children may experience a burning feeling in their eyes and sensitivity to bright lights, causing discomfort.
Nystagmus: Involuntary eye movements that can affect balance and coordination.
Cataracts Though rare in children, cataracts can develop and lead to cloudy vision.
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP): A condition in premature infants where abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina, potentially leading to vision problems.
Injuries: Children are prone to eye injuries from sports, toys, or accidents, which can range from minor to severe.
Signs of children’s eye problem
- Squinting or closing one eye
- Frequent rubbing of the eyes
- Difficulty reading or seeing the board in school
- Complaints of blurry vision
- Eye redness or discharge
