Dr Currie Chiang obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Singapore. Following her training in Ophthalmology at the Eye Department of the Singapore General Hospital, she went to the London to work with Professor Noel Rice at the Corneal Clinic and with Professor Jay at the Glaucoma Clinic in Moorfield’s Eye Hospital. She also trained at the Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, Royal Infirmary in Glasgow (Retina Clinic), the Western General Hospital and Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh. While working as a senior officer at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion she was exposed to all aspects of eye care, including Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmology and medical/surgical Retina. With the extensive training both locally and overseas, Dr Chiang is able to manage a wide range of eye problems.
Achievements
She obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCS) as well as the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmology (FRCOphth,UK). Returning to Singapore, she worked at the Department of Ophthalmology at SGH before joining private practice in Mt Elizabeth Medical Centre. Dr Chiang established her own practice in Mt Elizabeth in 1996. She has special interest in the anterior segment, including cataract and refractive surgery.
She worked as a visiting consultant in Toa Payoh Hospital for a few years. She has co-written a book.
101 Questions and Answers on Cataracts and Implants, and served on the editorial board of the journals Implants in Ophthalmology and The Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology.
She has published a study on radial keratotomy with Professor George Waring.
She has also held the following professional offices:
- Committee member of the 26th International Congress of Ophthalmology in Singapore, at which she conducted a video presentation on cataract surgery;
- Secretary for the Joint Meeting of the International Society of Reflective Keratoplasty and the European Society of Refractive Surgery
- She has written and presented many papers both locally and overseas and performed live demonstrations of cataract surgery in international meetings.
- Since 2002 , she has also been an active participant in various local community services as well as overseas missions to deliver free eye treatment to the villages in countries such as Indonesia, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
